DESCRIPTION:
Based in Portland, Oregon, CD Baby has grown over the last ten years to become the world’s largest and most respected distributor of recorded music in the form of both standard CD’s as well as through all of the latest digital download formats by serving the Independent Musician Community and their fans. We are seeking a VP of Technology who as a key member of CD Baby’s leadership team will have overall responsibility for managing technology infrastructure and software planning, strategy and deployment, feature development, and all facets of the day-to-day I.T. operations that support the CD Baby Business Unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides leadership in planning and managing CD Baby computer operations, software and functionality development, systems and database administration, network operations, server systems, storage systems, and end user/desktop support and customer service.
· Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CD Baby IT operation.
· Provides technology leadership, enables innovation and understands the IT trends that can create business value.
· Manages software development team responsible for building out site functionality and UI, to ensure company’s goals are met.
· Works closely with warehouse, business, and customer service teams to project manage (including translating business requirements into task breakdown / time and resource budgeting, and monitoring) all of the company’s IT projects.
· Responsible for data and software architecture and influences technical and architectural aspects of enterprise-wide business decisions.
· Accountable for data security and compliance
· Accountable for data center and website performance
· Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to them for product development and company operations.
· Ensures that systems performance and service level requirements are met.
· Implements IT continuous improvement programs.
· Manages strategic relationships with key IT product and services providers.
· Provides in-depth technical expertise for both tactical and operational initiatives.
· Demonstrates exemplary leadership skills to create and develop a high performance, productive, engaged work team(s) and a results-focused work environment.
· Anticipate and react to major technology changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive landscape.
TEAM LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides effective leadership to the CD Baby IT team through prioritization based on visions/ goals.
· Provides effective management of employees through timely, candid and constructive feedback.
· Develops employees to their fullest potential and provides challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth.
· Recruits and develops appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning.
· Recognizes and rewards employees for accomplishments.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field. MBA a plus.
· 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
· 5+ years of leadership experience managing multiple, large cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.
· Proven results in hands-on leadership of an IT department.
· Requires financial management background (Capital/Expense planning, budgeting, etc.)
· Can demonstrate a successful history of managing high volume, high availability environments.
· ERP/CRM experience with Microsoft Dynamics Ax
o Expert Knowledge of Ax application design and architecture
o Expert knowledge of X++ programming language
o Experience with the .net business connector
o Experience with gathering user requirements and performing functional and technical design
o Management of End-user training
· SQL Server Experience
o Expert knowledge of T-SQL and query optimization
o Experience with data modeling
o Thorough understanding and experience with SSIS
o Thorough understanding and experience with SQL Reporting Services
· Software Development Experience
o Experienced in all aspects of the software design lifecycle
o Thorough knowledge of C#, ASP.NET
o Experience with XML/JavaScript/Jquery/Ajax/Web Services
· Networking/Hardware experience with
o Windows (Server 2008, IIS)
o Cisco
o Virtualization (VMWare, Virtual Iron)
o SAN/NAS (Compellent, NetApp)
· Familiarity with open source technology.
· Experience with digital audio/video file formats, volume file transfers, and warehousing digital audio / video / image content and strategies for delivering that content to consumers quickly and reliably a plus.
